In cooperation with the UNESCO Chair, symposium on the Speicher crime held in Imam Hussain Holy Shrine

In cooperation with the UNESCO Chair for Dialogue at the University of Kufa and the Karbala office of the High Commission for Human Rights, the International Media Center hosted a symposium to shed light on the Speicher crime at Imam Hussain Holy Shrine.

The symposium explained the Speicher massacre that occurred in 2014, during which focus was placed on the legal, social and political aspects that revolved around, before and after the massacre.

The center’s advisor, Alaa Shatnan, said, “The topics discussed were the legal framework for classifying the massacre, and the procedures reached for transferring the case to the International Criminal Court and the Security Council, in addition to the team assigned to investigate the perpetrators of the massacre, which was formed in 2017, in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions.”

He explained, "The symposium dealt with the latest Security Council resolutions regarding the characterization of the massacre and the criminalization of the perpetrators and all those who supported them, and this is what concerns us directly."

He continued, "The symposium addressed the social and psychological circumstances of the Speicher massacre after the crime, through a detailed lecture delivered by the Director of the Office of the Human Rights Commission in Karbala, Majid al-Masoudi."
