After its destruction by ISIS, Imam Hussain Holy Shrine forms committee to facilitate the reconstruction of Mosul’s shrines and mosques

Following the directives of the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi al-Karbalaey, the Department of General Activities at Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, in coordination with the General Secretariat of Iraq’s Shia Shrines, has announced the formation of a committee to study the process of reconstructing the shrines and mosques in Nineveh province, which were subjected to destruction during ISIS’ control over the eastern and western regions of Iraq from mid-2014 to mid-2017.

The assistant head of the department, Sheikh Ali al-Qarawi, said, “A committee has been formed by the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine to facilitate the reconstruction of shrines and mosques destroyed by ISIS in western Nineveh regions, especially Tal Afar district.”

He explained that a delegation from the department recently visited the Shia Endowment Bureau and met with Sheikh Khalifa al-Jawhar, Secretary-General of Iraq’s Shia Shrines, and discussed the conditions of shrines and mosques that were demolished by the terrorist organization in Tal Afar district.

"The committee will also track the path taken by the captives of Karbala, which includes the area of Eski Mosul and the place where the holy head of Imam Hussain was placed,” added al-Qarawi.

ISIS had published on its so-called "Nineveh State" account on Twitter, a video showing the demolition of shrines and mosques in a number of cities controlled by them.
