Muslim members of Congress face spike in threats

One of the few Muslim members of Congress in the US said she feels her life may be in danger after receiving many threats since the massive Israeli attacks on Gazza, which reflects enormous concerns among Muslims living in America, especially since the 9/11 attacks.
The U.S. Capitol Police briefed those critical of Israel, including the only other Muslim woman in Congress, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who is Palestinian-American, of potential threats last week.
The voicemail messages include d profanity-laced death threats, calling her "a Muslim terrorist."
Ilhan Omar said in a statement that she and other Muslim Americans were victims of "unfair defamation", which created an environment in which threats multiplied.
She added, "I directly put my life and the lives of my family at risk and subjected my employees to painful verbal abuse only for doing their job. As it also threatens millions of American Muslims."
"This toxic language and image have real-world consequences,” she continued. Meanwhile, "House Republican leaders remain silent as their party unleashes these toxic attacks and refuse to hold extremists in their group. Since I took office, two men have pleaded guilty to threatening to kill me. This is very real. I fear for my children and must talk to them about remaining careful."
