Islam in Haiti

The expert and academic in international relations, Ivan Ernesto, confirmed that there is a qualitative presence of Islam in Haiti, which began to grow in the democratic republic.

"According to some estimates, there are at least 5,000 converts to Islam in the past twenty years in Haiti. In 2016, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially listed 36 mosques and 50 Quran schools as Islamic places of worship," Ernesto said in an interview conducted by the International Media Center.

The academic added, "Dominican youth, including women, are discovering Islam in universities, stressing that there are many mosques in the Dominican lands."

"Islam is the fastest growing religion, and there is a continuous and increasing growth in Brazil, Argentina and Chile."
