Ashura: Nigerian Shia Mourn Imam Hussain's Martyrdom in More Than 100 Cities, Towns, and Villages

Like other Muslims worldwide, particularly the Shia people, who gained their culture from the school of freedom and wise thoughts represented by Ahulalbayet, the Prophet Mohammad's progeny - (PBUH), specifically Nigerian Shia who follow his eminence Sheikh Ibrahim Yaqoub El-Zakzaky, the leader and most revered and influential religious Cleric of the Nigerian Shia, since the beginning of Muharram, the Shia have started mourning processions on the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain (PBUH).

Annually, the mourning gatherings are held, and this year they will take place in over 100 cities, towns, and villages, including the nation's federal capital, Abuja, where the country's Shia leader, who has about (30M) followers, is still being placed under house arrest.

The mourning processions' banners can usually be recognised by the words written on them, like "Labbayka Ya Husain!" and other things like religious lectures and drama works that perform the tragic disaster that happened to Imam Hussain, who travelled the 1470 km from Mecca to Medina then to Karbala in his 23-day journey, where he was killed accompanied with his family and (72) followers on Friday, the 10th of Muharram 61 AH, by Yazeed's forces.
