In response to the call of the Supreme Religious Authority, Imam Hussain Holy Shrine sends relief convoys to those affected by the earthquake in Syria

In compliance with the directives of the Supreme Religious Authority, represented by His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Al-Sistani, relief convoys of Imam Hussain Holy Shrine set out to Syria to provide full support and aid to those affected by the earthquake that struck many Syrian regions.

The head of the Crisis and Relief Cell, affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Major General Ali Al-Hamdani, said, "The largest relief convoy, which included over 400 vehicles and 60 trucks, set off carrying 1000 tons of aid to meet the needs of the Syrian people."

Al-Hamdani pointed out that “the convoy contains ten thousand blankets, medical and food supplies, clothes for adults and children, tents, etc., as well as 40 tons of dates, in addition to a mobile restaurant and bakery, which will prepare five thousand meals per day for families in the Syrian territories. It will be stationed with the convoy in the areas affected by the earthquake.”

The representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi Al-Karbalaey, had earlier called for concerted efforts to provide relief to the earthquake victims, saying, "You must reflect the morals of the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them) in providing this aid, meaning that you do not have any worldly motives, and that your work is sincerely for the Almighty, and it is reflected in the relief process that you provide and in dealing with the earthquake-affected families.”

The head of the Public Relations Department of Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Abdul-Amir Taha, said that "the Holy Shrine has set up two operation rooms, one in Iraq and the other in Syria, in order to follow up on the situation.”

Taha also indicated that the Holy Shrine is preparing to set out a second relief convoy in the next few days.
