Over 500 incidents of Islamophobia recorded in the United States in six months

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) announced that 500 reports of Islamophobia have been recorded in the United States as of mid-2021.

There has been an increase in anti-Muslim reports - particularly attacks on mosques and assaults  - with a sharp rise in May and June.

Four anti-mosque incidents were recorded in May alone and several physical assaults targeting Muslim women wearing hijabs.

According to the Council, these incidents include “hate crimes, harassment, discrimination, hate speech, and attacks against mosques.”

The report also states that government officials have repeatedly used anti-Muslim hate speech on social media to marginalize American Muslims.

On April 24, a mosque in the state of Minnesota was vandalized with anti-Islam messages and a Nazi swastika. Two weeks later, there was an attempted stabbing at the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Virginia.
