Myanmar mosque refills oxygen tanks for Covid patients, regardless of religion

With the Covid pandemic in Myanmar worsening, many are struggling as the country experiences shortages in medical supplies.

Located in the southeastern part of Yangon, the Nwe Aye Sunni Jame Mosque has been helping out its community by supplying oxygen to the patients.

Offering help to people from more than 100 ethnicities, the mosque reached out affected individuals despite their differences in faith and religion.

Myanmar activist Thinzar Shunlei Yi tweeted several photos showing people queuing outside the mosque under the rain. Blue oxygen cylinder tanks were carefully lined up on the ground.

In addition to praising the mosque’s kind action, Thinzar explained that this was the same mosque that had handed out about 5,000 free meals to Covid quarantine centers, hospitals, and the homeless since September last year.

She further added that Myanmar should “embrace diversity, and respect the strength and love of minoritized religions towards other.”

Myanmar reported 5,014 new cases and 80 new deaths on Monday, July 12.
