Ur: An archeological site bearing religious symbolism for followers of monotheistic religions

Ur is an archaeological site located in southern Iraq and was the capital of the Sumerian state in 2100 BC.

The city of Ur has religious significance as it witnessed the birth of the Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him, and a historical significance as it is one of the most important cities of the Sumerian civilization.

Ur is located in Dhi Qar province, southern Iraq, 17 km from Nasiriyah, the provincial capital. It is one of the four historical Sumerian cities in the province, along with Eridu, Girsu and Lagash.

It was the capital of the Sumerians, where they developed the irrigation system, practiced advanced agricultural methods, as well as traded on a large scale with neighboring cities throughout Mesopotamia and beyond.
